The House of Smoke: Introduction

“The House of Smoke” is a speculative fiction novel that I’ve been working on for over ten years. It comes in and out of my life but I’ve been holding myself back with the idea that it’s “not ready”. I’m publishing it here because I want to give it a life outside of my computer, even with its flaws. I want to be accountable to this story and its characters that mean so much to me, and putting it out into the world makes me feel dedicated to continuing to develop it. 

The novel is a family saga spanning decades, many of the family members have “gifts” that give them advantages in the world and it’s a study in how they use them. There are themes of power, white supremacy, trauma, violence, intergenerational wounds and the responsibilities we have to those wounds.
